Common causes of high bills
It is common for high bills to be caused by things like:
- faulty or old and inefficient appliances
- increased energy use in different seasons
- new appliances
- a catchup on electricity charges after underestimated bills
- more people living in the property
- tariff price changes
- previous unpaid bills
- changes to a billing period
- debt transfer from an old account
- billing delays
- lower solar generation due to the season or weather.
What to do if you bill is higher than it should be
If you think a bill is higher than it should be, you should lodge a complaint with your retailer for a review of your account. The retailer may be able to explain the bill. They can also help if you are having difficulties paying the bill.
While a high bill is being investigated, we recommend paying any other bills that you are not disputing. This will help you stay on top of your bills and avoid bill shock after the investigation is finished.
