We are committed to making information accessible to all members of the Tasmanian community.
This website aims to meet the latest standard of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to Level AA.
Browser compatibility
This website is fully functional for all modern visual browsers, text-only browsers, screen readers and mobile devices. It has been found to operate optimally in the latest versions of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari and Mozilla Firefox. Most of these browsers update themselves to the latest versions automatically.
Most website browsers have been built on the technology of Chrome, Safari or Firefox. If it works in these three, it should work in most other browsers.
Navigation
Our website has navigation features to help you find what you need.
Header
Across the top of every page are links to Home (click on the Energy Ombudsman Tasmania logo), Search, Make a complaint and Contact us. The 'All sites' drop down menu has links to other websites that are part of our Office - Ombudsman Tasmania, Health Complaints Commissioner, NPM & Custodial Inspector and Official Visitors Programs.
Main menu
All our pages feature a main navigation menu with links to Home, Complaints, Common issues, Resources and About us. Keyboard access as follows:
- When the focus is on a top level menu item press 'enter' or 'space' to expand or collapse the section
- The 'tab' key will move the focus to the next item
- 'Shift' + 'tab' will move the focus backwards
Breadcrumbs
Our desktop website uses breadcrumbs. These are a series of links showing the trail back to the homepage from wherever you are in the site.
Breadcrumbs sit underneath the main navigation bar on every page. To return to the previous page you were viewing, click on the 'back' button in your browser or use one of the navigation tools to go directly to the page you want.
Footer
At the bottom of each page there are links to:
- Home, Accessibility and Sitemap
- pages that feature in the cards on the Home page
- Service Tasmania, Disclaimer and copyright and Personal information
- Make a complaint and Contact us.
Browser tools
Text size
Text can be re-sized or zoomed in or out by using the tools or preferences in most web browsers. You can also increase and decrease the text size by using the following shortcuts.
To make text larger
- Windows: 'Ctrl' and '+'
- Mac: 'Command' and '+'
To make text smaller
- Windows: 'Ctrl' and '-'
- Mac: 'Command' and '-'
Simplified view
Most browsers offer tools to help improve reading accessibility by simplifying pages and offering read aloud, translation and other customisation.
- For Microsoft Edge, use Immersive Reader
- For Mozilla Firefox, use Reader View
- For Google Chrome, use Reader Mode
- For Apple Safari, use Reader
Narration
- Windows Narrator: Under your computer's Start menu, run 'narrator' and this will read the content to you (works on other programs and other websites too). To stop using narrator in most browsers, exit the program by clicking on the X at the top corner.
- Mac VoiceOver: Select the Apple menu button in the top left corner of your screen, then System Preferences and press the Accessibility button. Select VoiceOver. Alternatively, you can press Command-F5 to enable VoiceOver.

Forms and publications
This website has forms and publications that may not be in HTML format. To assist users to download and share content, most documents are available in Adobe PDF or Microsoft Word format.
Most devices have the software to open these document formats. However, if yours does not, you can:
- download Adobe Reader for free
- download OpenOffice for free
- contact us if you need documents in a different format.
Third-party content
We may publish documents and publications received from third parties and host content on third-party platforms.
These documents and platforms may not adhere to the standards followed by Energy Ombudsman Tasmania. We do not take responsibility for the accessibility of documents provided by third parties.
Office accessibility
Energy Ombudsman Tasmania aims to ensure that our services, information and facilities are accessible to people with disability, including their carers and family members.
The office has an accessible entrance from 86 Collins Street, Hobart. An accessible lift is located in the entrance foyer.
There are Metro bus stops in front of the entrance on 86 Collins Street and 5-minute drop off parking zones opposite.
