Vegetation management

Trees and shrubs located adjacent to or under powerlines are a common cause of unplanned electricity outages and can also cause vegetation fires.

TasNetworks has a vegetation management program to maintain vegetation near its electricity infrastructure.  However, there is also a responsibility on property owners to maintain vegetation, particularly with vegetation adjacent to a customer’s supply line.

You should obtain advice or engage a vegetation contractor to undertake the management of any vegetation that is over-hanging conductors.  This is particularly important if you are working near distribution infrastructure.

You can also obtain advice from a plant nursery on appropriate shrubs and trees that can be planted in the vicinity of powerlines.

Find out more on the TasNetworks website about responsibility for maintaining vegetation near powerlines.
