Private electricity infrastructure

The electricity distribution network in Tasmania is owned by TasNetworks.

Generally, TasNetworks own the first span of conductor off the distribution network to the point it attaches to the first pole on private land with the land owner or customer being responsible for any infrastructure located beyond that point.

Transformers and associated  transformer poles, cross arms and fuses remain in the ownership of TasNetworks.

Where electricity infrastructure on private land supplies more than one customer, it is the responsibility of those customers to determine any arrangements necessary for the maintenance of the private infrastructure supplying them.

High voltage (HV) powerlines installed after approximately 1981 are also owned by TasNetworks.
